Grant Guidelnines & criteria

The Dunn Family Foundation is committed to supporting organizations and initiatives that create meaningful, lasting impact in the communities they serve. Grants are awarded on a selective basis to organizations that align with the Foundation’s mission and funding priorities. 


Eligible applicants generally include nonprofit organizations recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as well as certain public sector entities and initiatives that advance education, community development, or other charitable purposes consistent with the Foundation’s objectives.

General Application expectations

All grant requests should clearly communicate:

  • Your organization’s mission and background.
  • The community need or problem your project seeks to address.
  • A detailed plan describing how grant funds will be used.
  • Specific, measurable outcomes and methods for evaluating success.
  • The long-term impact and sustainability of the proposed initiative.

Requests under $5,000

Organizations seeking grants of less than $5,000 may complete the Foundation’s simplified grant request form.


Grant requests under $5,000 will be reviewed monthly. All simple grant requests received before the end of the month will be evaluated, and feedback will be provided by the 15th of the following month.

For grant requests of $5,000 or more, applicants should submit a comprehensive proposal containing the following sections

  • Introduce your organization and the proposed project or program.
  • State the amount of funding requested.
  • Explain how the project aligns with the Dunn Family Foundation’s mission and funding priorities.
  • Include contact information for the appropriate organizational representative.
  • Be signed by the Executive Director, Board Chair, or other authorized official.


Provide a concise overview of the proposal, including:

  • The project’s purpose and significance.
  • The need being addressed.
  • The proposed solution.
  • How grant funds will be utilized.
  • Why your organization is well-positioned to successfully complete the project.


Describe:

  • The problem or opportunity being addressed.
  • Why the issue is significant and timely.
  • The population or community that will benefit.
  • Supporting data, research, or other evidence demonstrating need.


Clearly define:

  • Broad project goals.
  • Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) objectives that demonstrate intended outcomes.


Explain:

  • The activities and services that will be carried out.
  • The project timeline and key milestones.
  • The personnel, partners, or organizations responsible for implementation.


Describe how success will be measured, including:

  • Performance indicators and data collection methods.
  • Processes for monitoring progress.
  • How results and outcomes will be evaluated and reported.


Include:

  • A detailed line-item budget.
  • Budget justifications explaining major expenses.
  • Information demonstrating how the project or program will be sustained beyond the grant period, when applicable.


Provide information about:

  • Your organization’s mission and history.
  • Relevant accomplishments and experience.
  • Leadership structure, including Board of Directors and key staff members.


Please include, as applicable:

  • IRS determination letter confirming 501(c)(3) status.
  • Recent financial statements or audited financial reports, if available.
  • Letters of support from community partners or stakeholders.
  • Resumes or biographies of key personnel involved in the project.


Larger grant applications and proposals must be completed and submitted according to the following schedule. 

  • -March 1st – for an April decision 
  • June 1st – for a July decision 
  • Sept 1st – for an October decision 
  • Dec 1st – for a January decision 

If these submission dates fall on a Saturday or Sunday, proposals will be accepted by 5 PM the following Monday. Feedback on decisions will be given no later than the end of the noted month.

Submission of a grant application does not guarantee funding. The Dunn Family Foundation retains sole discretion over all grant-making decisions and may approve, deny, modify, or discontinue funding opportunities at any time.
